2016 Summer Internships – Environmental, Health and Safety – The Dow Chemical Company – Indianapolis, IN


Environmental, Health, and Safety Interns get hands-on experience at Dow AgroSciences Headquarters supporting all aspects of Research and Development. Interns are assigned to a EH&S Mentor who outline tasks, assist in role and project assignment, and project completion. Interns are involved in cross functional aspects of EH&S throughout their employment, giving them valuable knowledge and experience for future career opportunities. All interns will have an opportunity to interact with interns working in other business units of Dow AgroSciences. Interns will be asked to perform a specific project(s) in addition to daily operational responsibilities. These projects are designed to enhance the participant’s internship and bring value to the EH&S organization. You will also have the opportunity to re-cap the intern experience and present the results of your projects to our Dow AgroSciences Leadership Team with the completion of the term.

There are two EH&S internship opportunities:
Implement SDS Management System for Research and Development

Fully understand regulatory needs of compliance and ensure project deliverables align appropriately with these standards

Establish a network with key stakeholders to assist with the population of a SDS database

Identify the chemicals within R&D functions needed to populate the SDS database

Help develop a sustainable program for SDS management at Indianapolis and West Lafayette facilities

Build and maintain strong working relationships with team mates, customers, SME’s and functions for timely completion of project work

Continue educational development by understanding the work processes of EH&S, implementation of change, and customer impact

Assist with efforts aligning with Industrial Hygiene programs for Research and Development

Continue to develop and implement the Hearing Conversation Program for Research and Development

Fully understand regulatory needs of compliance and ensure project deliverables align appropriately with these standards

Establish a network with key stakeholders to assist with completion of project goals

Manage modifications to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) approved lists, functional grids, and risk assessments

Review and update existing programs to reflect change implemented for Hearing Conservation

Build and maintain strong working relationships with team mates, customers, SME’s and functions for timely completion of project work

Continue educational development by understanding the work processes of EH&S, implementation of change, and customer impactEH&S Delivery Specialist

Assist with other efforts aligning with Industrial Hygiene programs for Research and Development

Required Skills:
Ability to build relationships and work well in a team based environment.

Outstanding communications skills, capable of communicating effectively with all levels in the organization.

Strong motivational, organization and problem solving skills. Detail and results-oriented individual with the ability to work independently.

Demonstrate leadership ability, with the desire to learn, a willingness to ask questions, and adaptable to changes.

Slight Travel may be required.

Qualifications

Currently pursuing at least a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Agriculture, or Science related field.

Typical disciplines of interest are Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, Personal Safety

Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.700/4.000 at current university

A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
