Editorial Intern, HBR.org – Harvard Business Publishing – Watertown, MA

Harvard Business Publishing’s summer internship program provides students who have a passion for learning with real world business experience through meaningful work; a general understanding of the publishing business; and functional knowledge and skills through ownership of projects. The ten-week program runs June 6, 2016 through August 12, 2016. Students work full-time and receive a stipend at the end of the program. Harvard Business Publishing is a wholly-owned, not-for-proft subsidiary of Harvard University. We are media company with the mission to create products and services that educate a business audience about best management practices and leadership development. We publish books, magazines, blogs, and cases; sponsor webinars; and develop e-learning programs, simulations, podcasts, apps and learning solutions. The editorial intern will take on a mix of longer-term, more challenging projects as well as daily assignments. Projects may include:

Curating content for HBR’s email newsletters

Editing digital articles and other content

Conducting research and organizing information for editors

Writing video scripts

Moderating comments

Identifying potential interviewees for the website

Scanning rss feeds and databases for new research

Tracking performance metrics to help guide editorial thinking

To be successful, applicants must:
be currently purusing a bachelor’s degree

be an excellent writer and/or editor;

love the Internet;

believe that ideas do have the power to change the world;

have great interpersonal and communication skills;

have an energetic and positive attitude, as well as a desire to learn;

be a self-starter;

and have demonstrated an interest in exploring a career in media.

The successful candidate’s goals and skills will be taken into account when crafting the list of assignments for the summer. You do not need a knowledge of business content, but you’ll get more out of this experience if you’re interested in any or all of these types of things: psychology; diversity; group dynamics; economics; income inequality; what makes companies succeed or fail; problem solving; personal productivity; environmental challenges; and the kind of leadership the world needs now

As part of the application process candidates will be asked to provide two writing samples.
