Field Station Operations Leader – Seeds & Traits R&D

Under the general supervision of the Station Leader, the Field Station Operations Leader (FSOL) will be responsible for the implementation of the cotton, corn and soybean field R&D programs in an efficient and safe manner. The FSOL will apply field breeding methods, provide field plot design expertise, interpersonal skills, agronomic expertise, and field equipment experience. In addition, the FSOL will be a site team leader and will share in administrative leadership responsibilities for the technician staff including coaching to maximize performance, build a culture of safety, adhere to DAS compliance policies, and develop careers. The FSOL, in collaboration with the Station Leader and assistance of the station administrative assistant, will manage the daily business tasks required to maintain efficient business operations. All actions will be conducted in a fair and safe manner.

Typical responsibilities:

Conduct various research activities, including but not limited to: assist in coordinating breeding efforts among breeders and across stations; develop and manage agronomic procedures across all crops at the station; oversee sample processing, seed packaging, and planting plan organization; coordinate equipment maintenance; and interact with the field agronomist to coordinate staff for maintaining off-site test locations.

Work with the Station Leader and project leaders to develop and manage an annual station budget that supports research goals and objectives. The FSOL will instrumental in the implementation for all station budget activities.

Cooperate with the site administrative assistant and various business functions within Dow AgroSciences and Dow Chemical to manage the local business activities that are necessary to efficiently operate the field station.

·

Be a team leader and share administrative leadership responsibilities for the station staff responsible for the implementation of projects. Responsible for coaching of staff at the station to maximize performance, build a culture of safety, adhere to DAS compliance policies, and develop their careers.

Ensure that DAS EH&S, DOT and station regulations and policies are enforced.

·

Supervise and plan duties for full time and part-time positions at the Leland, MS site to implement the research plan of work in the most efficient and safe manner.

·

Collaborate with other research stations within DAS to exchange ideas, plots, data and other items to maximize performance of the team.

·

Participate in sales and agronomy meetings and support as needed.

·

Travel to outlying trial locations and other Research Stations and Laboratories as needed.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

·

Strong interpersonal effectiveness and personal leadership skills to successfully lead teams and people and understand the importance of developing the careers of direct reports.

·

Master’s degree or higher in Crop Genetics, agronomy or a related field

·

Experience of 10+ years in crop breeding research and development

·

Personal experience in managing irrigated cotton, corn and/or soybean crops.

·

Solid understanding of agronomy, statistics, field equipment and customer’s needs.

·

Previous experience with crop breeding program is desirable.

·

Ability to take initiative and work effectively on teams.

·

Must have enthusiasm and aptitude for learning and continuous improvement of critical research activities and have well developed computer skills.

Basic Qualifications

·

Bachelor’s degree or higher

·

5+ years

in crop breeding research and development

·

A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
