Post-Baccalaureate Instructional Technology Specialist for Blended Learning – Smith College – Northampton, MA


General Statement of Duties and Project Goals:
The PostBac will work with faculty members to develop on-line resources and learning opportunities for students that can be blended with in-person aspects of their courses in the humanities (including languages) and the humanistic social sciences. The position is part of a Five College initiative to explore opportunities for blended learning in the humanities and humanistic social sciences. This position is also part of the Five College initiative to support recent graduates from the five campuses who are interested in gaining experience using technologies to enhance and promote learning in and outside the classroom. Opportunities for additional professional growth and development and support for related training will be provided.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Work closely with the Five College Blended Learning Team (the Five College Director of IT, the Five College Director of Academic Programs, the Faculty Coordinator, and the Assessment Specialist) to assist the project overall and to support selected projects’ individual blended learning goals.

Work closely with faculty members to provide hands-on support creating course materials that support individual projects.

Work with selected specialists in library, instructional, and information technologies.

Participate in planning, support for project management, and assessment toward project goals.

Support, as assigned, the processes of instructional design and assessment of student learning.

Attend meetings as assigned, serving as FCI support liaison and/or minute taker as needed.

Provide support for report-writing and presentations.

Travel to different campuses among the five campuses in the Consortium to work with project teams.

Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Recent classroom experience in higher education, preferably in settings utilizing various instructional technologies, enabling the candidate to serve as a bridge between faculty members and their students; hence a recent Bachelor’s degree from one of the consortium’s five associated institutions, awarded between May 2013 and May 2016.

Experience with on-line technologies, including a working knowledge of computer programming and scripting.

Experience in at least three of these areas is required: videography and audio (recording and editing), Moodle customization of blocks and APIs (plug-ins), screencast, simulcast, webinar platforms, YouTube, Vimeo, Drupal, web forms creation and data gathering, writing for social media and for web, organizing and aggregating social media feeds, creating RSS pages, mobile computing, video game design, virtual augmentation, responsive web design, layout, and mashup.

Experience participating in team projects involving project management.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

A record of accomplishment in courses across the liberal arts, especially in the humanities and humanistic social sciences.

Demonstrated interest in and ability to stay current on new technologies and tools and to learn new tasks and emergent technologies quickly.

Capacity to meet the physical expectations of the position, which include:

Visual ability to read computer screens and printed materials;

Hearing and speaking abilities to communicate effectively via the telephone and in person; and

Ability to pack, unpack, lift and carry, move, and relocate standard desktop computer equipment including monitors, desktop computers and printers.

Ability to pass a post-offer background check.

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated interest in working with faculty members to develop or modify their courses.

Additional Information:
Two positions available. These positions are full-time, exempt limited-term through June 2017. Pay rate: Nine month rate of $22,500, prorated for fractionally longer or shorter time.
