Product Manager, the digital front door for the City of Boston, provides crucial resources and information for the Boston community. But it’s not enough to make information available. Digital tools — especially the website — can and should be welcoming, beautiful, and understandable for all users. We’ve begun a redesign of (visit and are looking for a Product Manager to help define and implement an ambitious roadmap through the redesign and beyond.

As the Product Manager on the Digital Team, you’ll be in charge of the roadmap for and the shepherd of user experience. You’ll collaborate with departments across the city and collect feedback from users to inform new features. You’ll work closely with other members of the Digital Team (specialists in design, engineering, and content) to prioritize features, prototype, and drive the roadmap for

Work closely with contributors from each department to understand their goals, and help make their information and resources accessible to the public.

Be the shepherd of user experience. Ensure a consistent and delightful user experience across the website.

Understand users. Draw on data and user feedback to inform product direction.

Translate needs from users and departments into an overall vision and product roadmap that is aligned with our digital design principles.

Prototype, test, and iterate on ideas.

Work with designers to develop flows, wireframes, and mockups.

Define and track key product metrics; use metric targets to inform product evolution.

Coordinate launches with internal stakeholders.

Provide weekly status updates.

Assist in procuring additional resources (e.g., software), as needed.

At least three (3) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in product management, web content management, or a related field.

Passion for creating simple, elegant user experiences.

Deep understanding of user centered design methods and usability best practices.

Demonstrated track record of execution and entrepreneurial thinking. Previous experience with building or managing enterprise level products is a plus.

Exceptional interpersonal skills. Relationship builder who enjoys working with a variety of people and functions. You should be able to listen, ask questions to discern true nature of problems, and synthesize needs (from internal and external stakeholders) into an actionable product roadmap.

Extensive experience using analytical and creative thinking to solve problems.

Strong organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, work well under pressure and meet deadlines.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Positive attitude and a sense of humor.

Preference given to candidates with knowledge of web technologies, standard concepts, and best practices, including: Drupal, web analytics, XHTML, CSS, Adobe CS studio, and RSS feeds.


Boston Residency Required – You must reside within the City of Boston at the start of their employment

Annual salary: $67,400 – $97,500
