Job Overview

The Public Outreach and Marketing Manager at the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) is responsible for the development, coordination, management and implementation of public events and marketing efforts. Public events and marketing are part of a proactive marketing and communications strategy to increase public awareness of clean energy adoption opportunities, Massachusetts’ competitive advantages relative to other states and regions for clean energy companies and the role MassCEC plays in accelerating growth in the clean energy cluster.

The Public Outreach and Marketing Manager is charged with maintaining consistent and frequent communication across the organization during the development of and production of public events. The ideal candidate should be a team player, detail-oriented and have excellent communication skills.

MassCEC is a fast-paced, professional work environment. The Public Outreach and Marketing Manager should be prepared to maintain a steady flow of work for on-going projects while also helping on short-term requests that require a quick turnaround. The Public Outreach and Marketing Manager will report to the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications, while working closely with members of the MassCEC operations team, program teams and members of the senior and executive staff including the CEO. The Public Outreach and Marketing Manager is also occasionally tasked with special organization-wide or programmatic projects.

Job Duties

  • Responsible for the management of public events MassCEC participates in locally, regionally, nationally and internationally;
  • Manage more than 45 partnership organization agreements and event sponsorship agreements throughout the year;
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining MassCEC’s role as a sponsor and its ongoing relationships with outside organizations;
  • Responsible for managing all marketing tasks including video production, collateral development (digital and print), ad design and development of promotional materials;
  • Manage the invoicing and contracts processes relating to sponsorships and external service providers;
  • Manage the relationships with MassCEC design, printing and events vendors;
  • Responsible for managing periodic special projects such as developing programming and partnerships focused on diversity in the workplace;
  • Supervision of event logistics including managing supplies and collateral, planning event speaking programs and agendas, conducting speaker outreach, using digital media to document and publicize events and providing onsite support to staff, event speakers and attendees;
  • Assist the CEO with event preparation for speaking opportunities;
  • Staff the CEO at public events;
  • Periodically drive to event venues across the state to evaluate sites and locations (no car required);
  • Proactively seeking out speaking opportunities for CEO as well as executive and senior staff;
  • Help partner organizations (including our partners in municipal, federal and state government and industry groups) plan, promote and execute events that align with MassCEC’s core missions;
  • Draft and manage event memos and briefs;
  • Responsible for digital promotion of MassCEC events via LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, website, Constant Contact, website and the MassCEC events calendar;
  • Manage annual sponsorship and marketing budgets;
  • Responsible for managing organization-wide catering orders with the goal of keeping costs low; and
  • Supervise and mentor a MassCEC marketing and events fellow.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Preferred area of study in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, business development or political science.

Experience:

  • Four years or more of related communications or event planning experience in positions of increasing responsibility; and
  • Demonstrated experience working with state agencies, non-profit organizations and private sector companies or industry organizations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills;
  • Excellent project management, problem-resolution and negotiation skills;
  • Excellent PC skills and ability to use related business applications e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access, databases, E-mail and Internet;
  • Solid understanding of digital media community vehicles including blogs, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, You Tube, LinkedIn, Google +, wikis, widgets, RSS feeds and apps;
  • Experience w/ photo and video editing software and knowledge of HTML a significant plus;
  • High level of professionalism with good comprehension skills;
  • Understanding of or aptitude for learning about clean energy preferred;
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively;
  • Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines; and
  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit documents.
