Greenhouse Seedling Coordinator

experienced in greenhouse operations to support Ag-Chem & Biotechnology research to be conducted at our Indianapolis, Indiana Global R&D headquarters facility.

Some Examples of Responsibilities include

:

Production of high quality seeded materials with hands-on management of seeded product delivered to the greenhouses for the researchers with rigorous tracking of all processes.

Run and track experiments with seed lots (new and existing) to ensure best germination rates and determine best growing techniques/seed treatments to allow research to continually move forward.

Acquisition of various seed types from inside and outside the US with knowledge and understanding of compliance related to serve as permit holder for certain seed lots as needed.

Assisting the Greenhouse Manager in operating the facility in support of various Ag-Chem testing and Biotechnology-related projects.

Coordinate with the Propagation Focal Point & Greenhouse Space Focal Point in the allocation of the greenhouse and growth chamber space.

Identify areas for process and technical improvements and provide solutions that increase the quality and quantity of plant production.

Operate within stringent safety and regulatory guidelines

Cross training will be required-expectation to support other areas of GH operations as need arises

Co-Ownership of pesticide application program for all greenhouses and chambers

On site focal point for Noble of IN crew during working hours

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge and understanding of daily operations related to plant growth areas and familiarity with greenhouse lighting and watering, fertilization, plant physiology and various crop, vegetable and weed species.
  • Must be proficient with computers, including Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and have the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Strong customer service skills are necessary.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, meet deadlines, pay close attention to detail, and fully embrace safety and regulatory compliance guidelines.
  • Collaboration with the “customers” (researchers) to understand the what’s and why’s behind the testing as well as performing regular quality checks all to ensure the highest quality product (plant material) for testing
  • Flexibility to work on weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to perform physical labor under greenhouse conditions, including lifting 50 lbs and tolerating high temperatures for brief periods.
  • Safety as a primary consideration in all task requirements
  • Problem-solving skills and desire to continually improve methods for plant production are highly desired.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred qualifications:

  • A minimum of 1 year relevant experience in a Horticultural environment is highly preferred.
  • Experience with the use of databases to maintain/track processes is a plus.
  • Problem-solving skills and desire to continually improve methods for plant production are highly desired.

Education:

  • A Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Associate’s degree in Agronomy, Horticulture, Agricultural Engineering or a related field is preferred.
