Position Overview:
Manages entire patent litigation work in Canon Americas and collaborates with external law firms handling patent litigation cases. Manages and handles license matters regarding Intellectual Property under directions by Canon Americas Managements. Communicates with third parties’ IP (Intellectual Property) counsels and conducts networking with them as a Canon’s representative under Canon’s IP policies so as to increase Canon’s presence in IP area of U.S.A. Provides members of Patent Prosecution with useful suggestions for enhancing the quality of Patent Prosecution work based on experiences of Patent litigation work. Experienced attorney specializing in one or more phases of patent, trademark, or copyright law such as prosecution, litigation and infringement opinion. Evaluates attorney’s, agent’s and engineer’s work and advises them on their works, especially in Patent Litigation work. Supervising managers’ and supervisors’ work on patent litigation. Assists supervisors in protecting company rights in cases of litigation and contracts.

Responsibilities:
Management of the IP Litigation & Licensing Div. to include managing an internal patent litigation team if such a team is organized in IP Div., and to include managing the activities of supporting patent litigation work and reviewing work by the Patent litigation team and/or by the external law firm.

Review and study each patent litigation case, and conduct risk analysis in each patent litigation case and report it to Canon Americas Top Management.

Communicates with third parties’ IP (Intellectual Property) counsels and conducts networking with them as a Canon’s representative under Canon’s IP policies so as to increase Canon’s presence in IP area of U.S.A. This responsibility includes supporting the activities by LOT Network under the directions by IP Headquarter of Canon Inc.

Responsible for opinion work regarding patent infringement analysis.

Provides members of Patent Prosecution with useful suggestions for enhancing the quality of Patent Prosecution work based on experiences of Patent litigation work.

Qualifications:
Position desires an advanced graduate study or doctorate degree. At least 9 years of related work experience is required. Patent Attorney Qualified.

This position requires a Juris Doctorate degree, prior patent/IP experiences, especially patent litigation experiences, excellent management skills and excellent communication skills

Bachelor degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Biology or Physics is desirable.
