Job Summary

The Sustainable Living Experience (SLE) is a small community of 60+, first year students who live together in West Seeley Hall (Oxford) Residence Hall. SLE will provide a unique living experience with 24/7 exposure to sustainability practices, engage students through first hand learning experiences and programming, and develop student leaders at the beginning of their academic career. The Assistant Director will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the SLE.

This is a part time (20 hrs per week); three year, term limited position (7/1/2016 – 6/30/2019).

Responsibilities*

Student Services – Organize and implement academic programming that may include events, seminar series, student skills building, workshops, and co-curricular related programs. Collaborate with units throughout the University for mutually beneficial programming and training opportunities. Maintain day-to-day contact with students, addressing student needs, problems and concerns. Oversight of student programming and events, overall program evaluation, events oversight, collaborate with students and University partners to create mutually beneficial programming and project opportunities; represent SLE at student recruitment and other events as needed, contribute to coordination of student resource and training materials, manage and disburse student scholarships and other grants.

Non-academic HR – Lead role in hiring, training, supervising and evaluating part-time temporary staff and volunteer student leaders. Provide functional supervision for student staff which may include: undergraduate /graduate assistant; project facilitators who have weekly project group sessions; and Peer Facilitators who also reside in the community. Provide effective training and support to student leadership, including the facilitation of ongoing meetings. Partner with Residential staff to build and sustain an inclusive and engaging residential environment.

Administrative & Financial Oversight – provide administrative and operational leadership and direct the day-to-day operations. Assist the Director with monitoring program budget. Monitor program effectiveness through implementation of evaluation tools. Develop informal and formal mechanisms for learning more about student interests. Make recommendations for program development based on evaluation findings. Interact with faculty for both programming and resolution of issues relating to student/faculty project partnerships.

Professional Development & Service – Represent the SLE to internal and external constituencies.

Required Qualifications*

Master’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience, operations experience with undergraduate student populations (e.g., student community development, student housing, supervision of student teams; training and supervision of student leaders); experience related to environmental and sustainability education; experience facilitating or leading training sessions on topics related to the program’s goals; experience working with diverse populations, 2-3 years supervisory experience, strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently. High degree of judgment and diplomacy in regards to interpersonal communications, ability to promote a collaborative working environment in a supervisory role; ability to periodically attend evenings and weekend activities for supervision, facilitation, and participation. Working knowledge of Google collaboration tools, Skype, Facebook and RSS feeds.

Additional Information

The posted salary for this position is for a 100% effort position. This position is a part time position at a 50% effort. Actual pay received will reflect actual hours worked.
