Position Overview:
Seeking a software engineering intern to evaluate and work with a variety of emerging technologies. This position requires the candidate to work closely with Canon engineers to help analyze issues, investigate potential integration opportunities, come up with creative solutions and develop software for demonstration prototypes or other targets. This department works with a wide range of technology theme areas that include Cloud, Data Mining, Text Analytics, Semantic Search and Machine Learning.

In this position you will have a unique opportunity to advance your skills and knowledge by working alongside top notch software engineers and developers. Your responsibilities will include exploring new approaches or ideas, solving challenging problems, writing software to integrate with other systems (often using RESTful API’s) and writing software for demonstration prototypes and beyond.

Troubleshoot and develop technical solutions related to software and setup errors.

Create workaround procedures when standard procedures have failed and ensures issues are resolved in a timely fashion.

Escalate urgent problems requiring more in-depth knowledge to appropriate internal resources.

Pursuit of Computer Science, Mathematics or related degree with experience using Java, C#, and/or C++

Exposure to and some understanding of one or more of the following is highly desired: Data Analytics, Search Technologies, Semantic Web and/or Graph Databases.

Some hands-on experience with integrating with RESTful API’s is required

Analytical and disciplined engineering approach to solving problems

Some exposure and use of SOLR is a plus

Good oral and written communication skills.

Willingness to rapidly learn new technologies and apply them in creating proof-of-concept prototypes.

Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.

Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks.
