Position Overview:

Canon Financial Services is currently seeking a Legal Specialist to be responsible for recovery and litigation activities with the primary goal of maximizing recoveries from non-performing accounts within the portfolio.


  • Upon customer default, responsible for decision on how to minimize loss through application of various recovery tools. Develops and utilizes analytical process driven by risk parameters and potential recoveries to determine cost benefit of pursing litigation activity on written off accounts.
  • Responsible for initiation and oversight of all legal action for assigned accounts and acts as primary contact with internal and external attorneys on all litigation and bankruptcy matters. Maintains appropriate documentation on actions and decisions.
  • Proactively manage all assigned legal contracts, track all attorney placements and follow up for status updates with assigned agencies. Ensure timely execution of legal action by attorneys and monitor expenses related to each filing.
  • Review and prepare the necessary documentation and approvals for all contracts after charge-off for either assignment to outside counsel or retention in-house for follow up. Coordinate all activities and reporting and other information for review by senior management where applicable.
  • Responsible for all components of the attorney billing and invoicing process. This includes but not limited to: review invoices to ensure billing accuracy, reporting, proper cash application, accuracy of charges for work completed
  • Maximize CFS’ revenue and recoveries by reviewing and approving settlements and or payment plans being offered by the customer via outside counsel.
  • Other projects as described.


  • Education Required: Requires a bachelor’s degree in a related area skills and/or equivalent work experience with minimum 10 years commercial collections/workout experience and/or experience in as a paralegal in a commercial collections law firm with minimum 5 years commercial leasing experience.
  • Strong negotiation skills with ability to control the conversation with the customer while adhering to the core values and standards of CFS servicing.
  • Thorough understanding of Customer Relations Management and lease economics
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to work in fast pace environment and meet established goals and deadlines
