This position performs the work in SC as the specified function of Technical Editor for the DOE Headquarters (HQ) SCMS, a web-based system for the standards-based management to be utilized by all Federal SC employees at all locations nationwide, which includes include SC HQ, the SC Oak Ridge Office, the SC Chicago Office, and the 10 SC Site Offices (SC Ames Site Office; SC Argonne Site Office; SC Berkeley Site Office; SC Brookhaven Site Office; SC Fermi Site Office; SC ORNL Site Office; SC Pacific Northwest Site Office; SC Princeton Site Office; SC Stanford Site Office; and SC Thomas Jefferson Site Office).
Serves as a resource for authors/Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), to help them develop SCMS products.
Duties include proofreading, editing, and formatting documentation per the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) Style Manual and The Chicago Manual of Style;
Creating PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, graphs, newsletters, documentation, and graphics;
Updating and maintaining content of websites and site pages.
Minimum knowledge required to perform adequately in this position will require knowledge of specialized rules, procedures, practices, or operations acquired through substantial training or experience.
Knowledge of office procedures, records management principles, and working knowledge of record retention schedules published by DOE;

Must be able to work with electronic storage media, such as hard drives, floppy drives, USB Flash Drives, CD-ROMs, and DVDs.
Regularly stores and extracts file information from computers.

The position requires extreme adherence to confidentiality and security requirements, including discussion of material handled on a need to know basis only .
High School Diploma (Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Computer Science or related field is strongly desired).
Professional technical writing experience and experience assessing business needs/work with end-users, developers, and project managers to define the project requirements, workflow/user interface design.
Experience with the Internet, Web languages (HTML) and Web authoring tools.
Experience with the imaging capture and editing utilities and graphics creation applications. Considerable and demonstrated experience in using Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio, Publisher, Dreamweaver, Adobe Acrobat XI Standard, SQL Database Browser, Notepad, HTML, Adobe Photoshop, Outlook, Entrust, link checker program, Snag-It Screen Capture/Edit, RSS Feeds, Social media (i.e. FaceBook, Twitter), to accomplish technical writing responsibilities.
