This month FlexJobs is proud to feature and donate to Heart to Heart International.
Each month during 2020, FlexJobs is highlighting a fantastic nonprofit organization that we feel strongly about, and we will be donating $6,000 throughout the year. Come back each month to read about our selected nonprofit and see how they are helping to shape a better world.
Heart to Heart International believes that by improving healthcare access and helping individuals have a healthy life, communities can become healthier and more sustainable.
Disaster Sparks International Relief Effort
Founded in 1992 by Dr. Gary Morsch and other Rotary Club members, Heart to Heart International (HHI) started with a global airlift of aid to Russians affected by the Chernobyl disaster. Donated supplies were distributed to 32 hospitals and nine orphanages. At the time, it was the largest private humanitarian airlift ever completed.
Though HHI still provides worldwide disaster relief, its mission has expanded to include helping people around the world access quality healthcare. HHI provides doctors, nurses, medical supplies, equipment, and training wherever it’s needed. What’s more, they don’t only provide support when there’s a disaster. They provide support and supplies to support clinics’ efforts to see and treat as many patients as possible for routine check-ups and treatment.
The pandemic has amplified the need for quality healthcare. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has stressed the healthcare system in the U.S. and around the globe. To that end, HHI is providing COVID-19 relief to the healthcare frontline around the world. HHI has:
- Sent volunteer doctors and nurses to cities that were overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients
- Provided free medical care and coronavirus testing to the homeless
- Delivered PPE, including n95 masks, face shields, gowns, sanitizer, and gloves to hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies in need
- Delivered hygiene supplies to vulnerable communities, including 26 U.S. states
Though the COVID-19 crisis will eventually pass, HHI knows that access to healthcare is a long-term solution to a long-term problem. As part of their commitment to helping improve patient access, HHI continues to provide supplies and support to those that provide patient care in underserved areas of the world.
In addition to donating the necessary equipment and supplies to provide health care, HHI trains everyone on how to properly use the equipment, collect specimens, run the tests, and maintain the equipment.
Thankful for Support
