This month FlexJobs is proud to feature and donate to the World Wildlife Fund, which is dedicated to conserving and protecting the environment for now and the future.
Each month during 2019, FlexJobs is highlighting a fantastic nonprofit organization that we feel strongly about, and we will be donating $6,000 throughout the year!
Come back each month to read about our selected nonprofit and see how they are helping to shape a better world.
The World Wildlife Fund
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) works in more than 100 countries and has over 5 million members working to protect the planet’s health for years to come. For nearly 60 years, the WWF has played a pivotal role in building a healthy and sustainable world by engaging people, businesses, and governments in the fight for a healthier, sustainable world.
Working with their global network, the WWF connects local communities and international companies to build a respectful relationship with the environment. With the belief that “together anything is possible,” the WWF focuses on six key areas:
- Fresh water
Remote Work and the Environment
Remote work is one of the many ways that companies can support the WWF and help the environment. Allowing remote work, even part-time, ultimately has a positive effect on the planet. For example, in 2017 the EPA noted that transportation (including commuting) was responsible for 28.9% of greenhouse gas emissions. Allowing people to work remotely helps cut those emissions and can prevent nearly 3 million tons of greenhouse gasses from polluting the air.
Even companies without remote work policies can make small changes that have a considerable impact. Try some of these environmentally friendly tips in any office:
- Use natural light when you can. Or, swap out your incandescent light bulbs for CFLs or LEDs.
- Don’t print when you can keep everything in the cloud. Not only does this save paper (and trees), you cut back on your use of printer ink, staples, and paper clips.
- Really need to print something? Print double-sided whenever possible. If you can’t, consider using the back as scrap paper. And don’t forget to recycle!
- Add some plants to your office decor. They can help create a cleaner, healthier environment.
From day one, FlexJobs was founded on the belief that flexible work helps people, employers, communities, and the environment. As a certified green company, we remain committed to that belief and continue to encourage people and companies to embrace remote and flexible work options. We’re proud to donate to the World Wildlife Fund this month.
