Education is an important part of life. It teaches us skills, gives us a new understanding of the world, and lets us connect with other people. While there are plenty of online opportunities for education, sometimes you have to pursue your education in person. And, in many cases, that means relocating.
Leslie F. has moved multiple times over the years while her husband worked on his masters and then his Ph.D., which meant Leslie had to find a new job every time they moved. Leslie understands that moving was a part of life, but she doesn’t like having to quit and search for a new job every time. That’s when she joined FlexJobs in search of a remote and flexible job that she can keep no matter where she lives.
Searching for a Unicorn
Leslie wanted “a flexible job for some time.” She disliked having to start on the bottom rung after every move. But, she “did not think it was possible to find the type of work I do that is 100% remote or exactly what I would want. I thought it would be like finding a unicorn.” But when she joined FlexJobs, Leslie soon learned that unicorn jobs aren’t so rare.
“It was awesome to find FlexJobs,” she says, “because I could change jobs [and] not feel pressure to find something immediately,” after moving. And, after Leslie joined, she “was shocked to find how many options I had and could find my perfect fit.”
Now, Leslie is a full-time client success manager at Stride. Because Stride allows remote work, the next time she moves, Leslie won’t have to quit and find something new, allowing her to advance her career no matter where she lives or how many times she moves. “It is nice to take (the job) wherever we need to go in the future and not feel like I will have to leave a job I love. It can just go with me.”
Benefits of Remote Work
Not only can Leslie keep her job if she moves again, she’s found other advantages to remote work as well. Even though the company is headquartered in New York, Leslie continues to live in North Carolina, “the city of my choosing [while I] do the work I love.”
If that wasn’t enough, Leslie has more time to participate in “activities that I love” since she doesn’t have to commute for hours on end every week or worry about rush hour traffic. And, thanks to her remote job, Leslie can “visit my family more as I can do my work anywhere.”
Ultimately, Leslie says that a FlexJobs membership is “a win-win” for her and “absolutely worth it” for everyone who’s searching for a flexible and remote job.
