If you’re fortunate to be able to work from home, you know how beneficial it can be for your work-life balance. And for many, one of the most attractive advantages of a remote job is being able to integrate travel with work.
But what do you do when travel to the exotic locales you’d usually visit is restricted due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns? How do you still honor your inner passion for travel and exploration while staying safe? It may be time to consider temporarily relocating and making a tropical paradise your new home (and work) base!
A handful of countries and island nations are offering remote workers the opportunity to live and work from within their borders, like Barbados.

Barbados Welcome Stamp
Barbados is the easternmost island in the Caribbean and is about 250 miles northeast of Trinidad and Tobago. The island itself is only 21 miles long by 14 miles wide, but with miles of beaches and a temperate climate, there’s plenty to explore!
In July, Barbados launched its Barbados Welcome Stamp program, which is a visa that allows remote workers to live and work from the island for up to 12 months.
Prospective remote workers must declare that they expect to make at least $50,000 over the next 12 months or that they have the means to support themselves (and dependents, if applicable) while they’re in Barbados.
How to Apply
The application process for the Barbados Welcome Stamp is fairly easy and straightforward. You’ll simply need to supply a:
- Passport-sized photograph
- Bio data page from your (and your dependent’s) passport
- Proof of relationship of any dependents
You’ll also have to pay an application fee of $2,000 for an individual or $3,000 for a family, and payment must be made within 28 days of stamp approval.
How It Works
Your application will be processed within five business days, and if approved, you’ll have 12 months from the date of approval to begin your stay. You’ll get your stamp upon arrival in Barbados, and your year-long remote work adventure begins!
You can travel in and out of Barbados during your 12-month stay and won’t be liable for any local income tax. Although health insurance is required prior to approval, Barbados does have medical insurance options as well.
Barbados offers reliable, high-speed fiber internet and a variety of accommodation options, from budget-friendly to luxurious.
If you’re coming from a medium or high-risk country, you’ll need to get a negative PCR test within three days before your arrival in Barbados.
Upon arrival at the airport, your test results will be confirmed and you’ll be taken to your pre-approved accommodations. You’ll be restricted to your property until you get a second negative test 4-5 days after your first test.
Once you get your second negative test, you’re free to explore the island!
Find Your New Home Office
If you’re in the mood for a change of pace, few things will give you a fresher perspective than relocating your home office to an island paradise. Working remotely from Barbados will enable you to stay on your career path while satisfying your travel bug!
