While the pandemic has put a spotlight on the advantages of remote work, for those with chronic illnesses, remote work has always been imperative for a healthy life. Remote jobs tend to be more flexible, which makes it easier to go to doctor’s appointments and enables people with chronic conditions to manage their health while pursuing a career.
For Lindsay I., a remote job isn’t just a want. It’s a necessity. As someone with an autoimmune disease, Lindsay needs to balance her health concerns with her work life. In an office full of coworkers, that balance is not always easy to find. But thanks to remote and flexible work, Lindsay doesn’t have to sacrifice her job or her well-being.
Remote Work Creates Balance
Because she has an autoimmune disorder, Lindsay needs to protect her health all year round, not just during cold and flu season (or a pandemic). However, she doesn’t want to give up her career, either. “I have an autoimmune disease, and therefore it is very important to have a flexible job working from home.”
As a repeat customer, Lindsay has used her membership to find three jobs over the years. “The [first] job was part-time, and I also had a job working as a contractor.” She goes on to say, “You can cancel at any time! It is legit. I promise.”
Putting in the Work
Lindsay understands that looking for a job can be a tall task. “I put together my profile and searched daily until I found the right jobs that seemed to fit my needs. I only applied for those that fit the bill.”
Thanks to Lindsay’s hard work, she found a fully remote, full-time job as an onboarding specialist at eXp Realty. And though Lindsay spent time working on her profile and conducting regular searches of the FlexJobs database, she says she was “amazed at how quickly I found work.”
While flexible and remote work is perfect for managing her health issues, Lindsay has also discovered that remote work is “great during that time in my life when I needed time for doctor appointments, school activities, etc.”
She adds, “Not having to commute and deal with that added stress as well as being away from sick coworkers puts my mind at ease.”
Thanks to FlexJobs, Lindsay can safely balance her health issues with her career. “Working from home and being away from potentially sick coworkers [and] the ability to comfortably sit in my recliner if I’m not feeling great is everything!”
