What a Mentor will do

Airborne Tampa Mentors are responsible for the continued aircraft maintenance and repair skills progression of assigned Aircraft Mechanic Mentee(s) from the apprentice program(s). The Mentor performs their regular aircraft maintenance, repair, and/or modification on customer aircraft in accordance with applicable technical data, customer maintenance program requirements, within estimated or budgeted hours and within FAA and customer standards of quality. While performing those tasks, the Mentor will also support the skills development process with assigned Mentee(s) by exposing them to the assignments, coaching (not doing it for) them, if applicable, signing off on the Mentee’s completed work and maintaining the Mentee’s OJT document log. Mentors Return to Service the work performed by the Mentee on the appropriate documents. Mentors lead by example (safe & compliant) to assist in the development of the Mentee in the craft of aircraft maintenance and repair. During the mentorship, the Mentor will provide input and feedback to the Mentee, along with provide written evaluations every 30 days. Upon completion of the 3 month Mentorship Program, Mentors will provide their recommendation as to whether a Mentee is eligible to be promoted to a stand-alone technician.

What you need:

• Airframe license OR Repairman Certificate OR recommendation from your Supervisor (based on skillset)
• Regular Full Time Airborne Tampa Mechanic
• Working knowledge of aircraft maintenance and repair principles (based on skillset)
• 3-5 years aircraft maintenance and repair experience on heavy aircraft
• Working knowledge of computer based aircraft maintenance software
• Basic understanding of FAA regulations pertaining to FAR Part 145 repair station operations
• Structural Repair Manual, blueprints, Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives, and Illustrated Parts Catalogs (based on skillset)
• Effectively speak, read and write in the English language; able to communicate constructively with diverse individuals
• Excellent work/attendance record
• Extensive knowledge of aircraft maintenance and repair documentation (based on skillset) and Airborne Tampa policy and procedures
• Demonstrated ability to exercise problem solving and creative thinking skills
• Must be patient, highly self-motivated, able to work independently with little direct supervision and possess a desire to teach others the aircraft maintenance and repair trade

• Prior experience at a FAR Part 145 repair station

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
• Ability to twist, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, crawl and climb and sustain those positions for an extended period of time
• Ability to work at heights up to 60 feet
• Ability to work with arms raised above head and perform repetitive tasks and motions
• Ability to fit in tight places
• Ability to work in confined spaces with respiratory equipment
• Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions
• Ability to precisely manipulate hand tools in a variety of situations
