How to Find Remote Job Search Success

The pandemic has impacted the job market in countless ways. Millions are unemployed, and many in-person jobs simply cannot be done safely.

Remote positions can offer a lifeline, allowing people to earn an income while safely practicing social distancing. Given the choice, 65% of workers prefer to work remotely full-time after the pandemic is over, and 95% of people currently working remotely say their productivity has been higher or the same as when they worked in an office.

As you search for remote jobs, keep a few tips in mind, so you can search safe, search smart, and land a remote-friendly job.

Avoid Scams

Hiring practices during the pandemic have shifted, and most interviews are happening entirely online—which can make it harder to figure out which jobs are legitimate. However, there are some obvious signs a job is a scam:

  • They want your personal information before you have a job offer.
  • You have to pay for expenses up front.
  • They offer you a lot of money for very little work (“you’ll be rich in no time!”).

Bottom line: trust your gut. If you think it’s a job search scam, it probably is.

Write Your Resume for a Remote Job

Believe it or not, many people already have the remote-specific skills employers want from candidates. Take a deep dive into your work history to find your remote work skills and highlight those on your resume to potential employers.

Prepare for Your Close Up

You likely won’t have a face-to-face interview anytime soon. But that doesn’t mean you won’t have a virtual interview! Read up on video interview tips to help prepare you for success.
