For many remote workers, there’s little that beats the benefit of “commuting” to an office right in their own home. Our success story this week spotlights a woman who connected with her job as a career coach and the opportunity to work remotely, thanks to her FlexJobs membership.
Robin P. actually found two jobs using FlexJobs’ membership services. After initially finding work in a part-time role, Robin was hired by her current employer, Trilogy Education Services, as a full-time, remote career director.
Trilogy Education Services provides career and skills-based training programs to universities around the globe.
FlexJobs has helped thousands of members like Robin find job search success in positions that are remote, part-time, alternate schedule, or other flexible options.
Flexibility as a Remote Career Coach
Robin’s search for a job that met her criteria unfolded in stages. “I earned my certification as a professional coach, and wanted a full-time job in that role,” she said. “First, I found a part-time, contract position through FlexJobs, and then I found a full-time, remote position.”
Her job as a remote career director “with a fast-growing company” has brought many of the benefits of flexible work with it. “I love getting to work from home!” Robin told us. “Finally, finishing up a few last-minute details for work doesn’t mean I’m caught in worse traffic driving home. I love that I’m hardly putting any miles on my car.”
New Perspective with a Manager-Level Remote Job
Robin’s New York City-based employer has offered great support for the company’s distributed team. “I love even more that my current company really facilitates teamwork and comradeship even though we don’t work in an office together,” Robin said.
Now, Robin, who identified as a baby boomer, has some “air” in her daily work routine. “I have more flexibility with my personal schedule,” she said. “If I need to do something at 4:00, I can easily return to my work and finish up my day afterward.”
Her newfound work flexibility has shifted Robin’s career outlook. “My perspective has changed,” she wrote. “I used to see remote employees as being at a disadvantage or, worse yet, forgotten. Now I see working remotely as empowering the workforce in the 21st century and being kind to the environment.”
Tactics and Tips for Other Job Seekers
Robin shared fantastic insights about how she found her job as a remote career coach. “Job searching is all about networking,” she said. “I found the posting on FlexJobs, and then reached out to someone in the company whom I found on LinkedIn.”
From there, Robin followed through with her LinkedIn contact. “I asked good questions about his role and the company. He put in a good word for me with the hiring manager, who reached out to HR. Within five minutes, I had a call requesting an interview.”
Given her job search success, Robin urged other job seekers considering a FlexJobs membership to “go for it!” She continued, “It is so worth the investment to explore your options. Plus, FlexJobs fully vets the companies and the positions, so you don’t have to sort through a bunch of demoralizing junk.”
Robin’s conclusion on her FlexJobs experience? “Thank you for changing my perspective on working from home and for helping me find my dream job!”
