This position provides strategic digital marketing guidance, including developing growth goals, participating in creating and designing marketing campaigns and digital communication materials, implementing content and strategies, constant monitoring of marketing and implementing updates based on results in real time, and overall analytic evaluation of the marketing plan, digital communications, and advertising efforts for the Institute for Health Promotion Research at UT Health San Antonio and its projects, including a national Latino childhood obesity prevention program.

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Business Administration, Political Science, or related field and at least five (5) years of relevant marketing experience.


Duties 1: Guide Digital Marketing Strategies

Assess needs and then research, conceptualize, and plan strategic integrated digital marketing communications campaigns in line with overall organizational goals and objectives for growth, engagement, etc. The position will help plan, coordinate, and manage marketing budget for projects, content, campaigns, and tools. It also will work with an established communication team (communication director, digital content curators, and project coordinators) to manage and coordinate organizational digital media efforts, including web, mass email, and social media, as well as formulating and optimizing content development, style, and scheduling/dissemination. This position also should maintain knowledge of the latest marketing and advertising trends and be able to react and respond accordingly.

Duties 1 % of time: 30%

Duties 2: Create and Implement Digital Marketing Campaigns and Communications

Plan, recommend, develop, test, and implement innovative promotions and campaigns to increase growth, publicity, audience engagement, etc. This position also will work with the communications team to develop digital marketing campaigns and content, including idea generation, writing, editing, and design (while accounting for analytical measures and search engine optimization [SEO]). This activity will extend to coordinating production and distribution of these digital marketing campaigns and content. This position must be able to review all marketing and advertising content to ensure accuracy, grammar/copy, layout/design, ensure analytical measures are in place, etc.

Duties 2 % of time: 30%

Duties 3: Develop/Monitor Analytical Evaluation of Digital Marketing Efforts

Establish an overall analytic evaluation of the marketing plan, digital communications, and advertising efforts for the organization. This will include: implementing detailed metrics and analytics using multiple software and assessment tools to evaluate outcomes, interpret results of these metrics and analytics, and provide recommendations based on results; measuring marketing campaigns and digital content in terms of results, reach, impact, audience growth, metrics/analytics, and return on investment (ROI) and present reports to leadership on a regular basis; constantly monitoring marketing and advertising efforts and implementing updates and optimizations based on results in real time; and staying up to date with the latest methods of measuring digital content; and developing scientific and lay presentations and publications to outline the methodology, results, and conclusions of these digital efforts.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge and/or strong interest in health disparities, childhood obesity, physical activity, nutrition, built environment and public health policy.
  • Creativity and documented immersion in marketing and advertising.
  • Experience researching, developing, and implementing a digital marketing plan.
  • Experience conceptualizing, developing, designing, testing, and implementing innovative marketing campaigns across multiple digital venues.
  • Advertising experience using Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Goodle Adwords, Outbrain, and similar platforms.
  • Experience coordinating and implementing a marketing budget.
  • Experience utilizing the latest tools to measure the impact of marketing, advertising, and all types of digital content and social media; particularly with WordPress, Google Analytics, Social Report, KISS Metrics, Hootsuite, Tweetbinder, and others.
  • Experience setting up advanced analytics for campaigns and digital content across multiple digital channels to measure results, online traffic, return on investment (ROI).
  • Demonstrated experience in writing and advertising on social media.
  • Demonstrated skills in writing, editing, proofing, and ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written, digital, and video formats.
  • Skills in creating and optimizing mass emails for engagement.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of marketing venues, online websites, and social media platforms, and their respective audiences; and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios.
  • Proficiency in navigating the Internet and utilizing Internet-mining tools (RSS feed readers, etc.)
  • Ability to develop and optimize a large editorial/marketing calendar.
  • Continually refined knowledge of the latest trends in marketing, advertising, and content creation for reach, engagement, and audience growth.
  • Functional knowledge and personal experience with WordPress.
  • Some experience using mass email systems, such as Salsa Labs.
  • Some design skills, particularly in WordPress, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.
  • Some experience creating slides in PowerPoint.
  • Some experience organizing, scripting, and implementing Tweetchats on Twitter, Google Hangouts, Facebook events, etc.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently or collaboratively to produce high-quality deliverables.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
