This is a shift position that reports to the GIOC Shift Supervisor. Analysts work a shift schedule of four 10 hour shifts each week. Regional Analysts must be able to work holidays, weekends or night shifts if needed.
Provide analysis and research on security incidents in targeted region
Monitor open source intelligence and PlanetRisk feeds for real-time security threats
Write brief summaries of events and report updates to ongoing issues
Identify trends in data to proactively monitor on-going and future incidents
Categorize and geo-locate incidents as point, line, polyline or polygon in our enterprise platform
Update timelines of critical events
Coordinate with lead Reporting Analyst on outgoing travel security, intelligence and daily brief reports on issues in region of expertise
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with focus on international relations, emergency management, journalism or related fields.
Strong knowledge of acting groups, foreign policy and security issues in targeted region
Language proficiency in a major European language. Ability to provide translated news and social media stories quickly
Strong writing skills and analytical skills
Experience gathering open-source intelligence
Experience using social media for open source intelligence research
Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
Previous experience in emergency management or intelligence fields
Experience using data visualization and or geographic information systems (GIS)
Knowledge and understanding of database management systems (SQL knowledge a plus)
Experience working with OSINT resource and tools such as TweetDeck, HootSuite, OpenStreetMap, Wikimapia, Yahoo Pipes or RSS management tools
Compensation and Benefits:
Compensation: Hourly. $22 – $27 per hour based on experience. Eligible for overtime.
