Dow AgroSciences is currently looking to hire for the role of Utility Plant Lead Operator at our Harbor Beach, MI location. The purpose of this role is to support the utility plant operation and utility plant operator who is on shift.

Core Role responsibilities (utility plant operation):

  • Maintain and update utility plant training modules
  • Ensure all compliance tasks for utility plant are completed
  • Focal point for safe work permits for all scheduled maintenance in the utility plant
  • Prep equipment for maintenance (complete lock out/tag out of equipment and apply all life critical standards as applicable).
  • Understand and apply Global Standards and work practices and coach others in the area.
  • Own all aspects of 5S for the utility plant
  • Monitor planned maintenance schedule and give input to optimize execution of planned maintenance tasks
  • Complete operator maintenance on equipment (i.e. clean & change filters, change valves, change gages, etc)
  • Review logs and monitor logs for trends which indicated maintenance is needed on equipment. (i.e. approach temps, delta Ts, delta Ps, etc)
  • Technical / process subject matter resource in the individual’s area of expertise.
  • Performs or assist in process related Root Cause or failure analysis.
  • Develops and maintains plant process training material content and qualification assessments.
  • Ensures effective utilization of all available methods to teach and improve skills and knowledge of Operating the Plant roles. (i.e. (curriculums, Plant Training modules, Troubleshooting Guides, one-on-one troubleshooting activities, etc.)
  • Enhances front line skills and knowledge of plant personnel and other related roles through coaching on plant process, equipment, engineering, troubleshooting, reliability principles, Life Critical Standards, etc. This includes actively coaching and teaching Operating the Plant role during troubleshooting. Note: The Technical Advisor should always partner with an Operating the Plant role when in the field.
  • High involvement in formal training process and qualification of team members on plant process.
  • Owns and coaches others on the effective use of logbook, focusing on quality of information entered and appropriate notetype/stamp utilization.
  • Identifies areas for improvement and network with technical resources that are identifying Most Effective Technology (MET).
  • Assists improvement teams, and performs work with support functions (i.e. Maintenance, Technology Center, Quality, etc.) on issues relating to their area of expertise. (i.e. works with Reliability Engineer to resolve mechanical reliability issues, etc.)

Additional responsibilities (as time permits and/or assigned by admin leader)

  • Back fill on shift when scheduled operator is not available (i.e. vacation, medical, etc).
  • Work on improvement projects
  • Monitor and manage large repair activities (i.e. engine change-outs, cooling tower repairs, ect)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, and have the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills are required.
  • Must have strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills – inspire others and lead them through influence.
  • A self-starter who can identify, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks.
  • Must have a current, valid US driver’s license.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of operating utility plant.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of life critical standards and how to apply them as well as comprehensive knowledge of all utility plant systems and how they interface to the production plants.

Education:

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • An Associate’s degree is preferred.

Possible Schedule Options: (must be approved by Admin Leader)

  • Alternating Friday Off work schedule (M-F)
  • 5 – 8hr day work schedule (M-F)
