We are looking for a Writer/Digital Content Producer who can collaborate with teams to bring the voices, stories, resources, and concepts of Harvard Library to life.

Focusing on crafting, migrating, and keeping content fresh on the Harvard Library website and its other digital platforms, reporting to the Director of Communications, the Writer/Digital Content Producer works collaboratively with the Harvard Library Web Team and other departments to support content presentation and strategy on our external digital presence. Emphasis will be on ensuring the overall consistency of the user experience, improving the clarity of content, and helping to coordinate the daily management of library digital products, including library.harvard.edu.

The position calls for a candidate who can write clearly under deadline, edit to sharpen ideas, and is confident conceptualizing, drafting, and editing user-focused content. The candidate will be working closely with subject matter experts across the Library to adapt their content for the web, editing for clarity, brevity, and user-focus.

Responsibilities include:
Research, write, and edit content for Harvard Library website and other digital communications.

Work proactively across the Library to develop and implement content lifecycle guidelines including migration plans and regular updates.

Act as the primary contact for departments seeking content-related improvements, and ensure that requested changes are aligned with best practices and Harvard Library style guidelines.

Maintain quality control of website standards and content. Advise on content governance strategy.

Provide training on writing for the web, content strategy for web editors, and advise on digital content best practices.

Coordinate projects with content providers and technical personnel, suggesting opportunities for improvement.

Independently evaluate digital products using site traffic and trends, latest research, and best practices to identify improvement opportunities.

Keep updated on content best practices and new technologies or applications to continually improve website quality and efficiency.

Related projects and assignments as needed. This is a fully benefited, full-time Harvard University position that has been funded until December 31, 2018. There is the possibility of renewal, contingent on funding, Library priorities and satisfactory job performance.

At least 3 years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional experience in digital content production/writing for the web, web content management, communications, or related field.

Bachelors’ degree in journalism, information systems, marketing, English, or related field preferred and may be substituted for three years of the required experience.

Must have strong communication skills, be highly organized, be committed to a team environment and maintain a professional demeanor.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and with all levels of management.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, work well under pressure, and meet deadlines.

Experience working in a complex organization with multiple stakeholders.

Passion for learning and experimenting with new methods to deliver solutions.

Prior experience working as part of an Agile team a plus.

Prior experience with a web content management system desired; Drupal experience a plus.

Prior experience conducting training sessions or teaching classes on writing for the web, content strategy, or other related topics.

Knowledge of web technologies, standard concepts, best practices and procedures, including: content management systems, web analytics, HTML, CSS, SEO, Adobe CS and RSS feeds.

Ability to prioritize multiple projects

As a client-focused group, it sits within Harvard Library. The Writer/Digital Content Producer will be a part of the newly formed Harvard Library Web Team, co-run by the Library’s Director of Library Digital Strategies and Innovations and the Director of Communications. The team is made up of designers, developers, project managers, and user experience experts from the Library and Library Communications. The team will work collaboratively and iteratively using Agile principals. The team’s primary project from September 2017-September 2018 is redesigning the Harvard Library website and Harvard College Library websites. You will be a critical member of this team.
